Increase your English vocabulary! Fifth day!

Hello everyone! Today is the fifth day of increasing our English Vocabulary! Yesterday I promised you to tell about really special resource. So it is time for performing a promise :)

Today I am going to tell you about HotForWords – very special video lessons for discovering new words and their meaning! And especially I want to talk about the beautiful woman behind of HotForWords – Marina Orlova.

Marina is originally from Russia, but she lives in USA now. Believe me, she is absolutely amazing! She is really cool! She is the “Sexiest Philologist in the world” according to New Yorker Magazine! I found her web-site last week and I was so excited! I thought: I should write about her in my blog!

Her method of word explaining is…different? What can I say…I don’t know…I think you can like her, I think you can hate her, but you can’t stay indifferent to her!

What I am talking about? Her lessons are better to see once than hear a hundred times! By the way, Father’s day will be celebrated on June 21 in America. If you are listener of VOA Special English , you already know about the history of this holiday. Otherwise you can see Marina’s video “Father’s day”:

What would you say? Isn’t that nice? Tell me what do you think about Marina. And I have another little question for you. Do you celebrate Father’s Day in your country?

  3. In Russia we have no Father's day. Actually we have no Mother's day too. But there are two another holidays in our country: The Women's day for all women and especially for mothers; The day of motherland's protectors. This day we congratulate our fathers and all military personnel.

  7. Sorry guys, I hate to rain on your parade but I really think you there is no use in this type of lessons - do not get me wrong, but the info is great, no question a bout it, but whats with the girl??
I'd be ashamed to call myself a teacher of English with this pronunciation ! Where did she study English?? The inclanations and intonations of all sentences as a whole are wrong, wrong, wrong! This is so cheeeeeesy! Yak!
Sorry, the idea was good but the presenting it is a whole different matter altogether.
When one wishes to look at a sissy blond with big tits one goes and buys a Playboy or turns on cable tv.

  8. What can I say, different people have different opinions.

Yes, she has strong russian accent. And of course, she is not teacher of English, she is a linguist.

She does not teach people how pronounce the words, she explains the words' meaning. Not only for english learners.

  9. if she is a linguist it means she has to pronounce things better than anyone else - what do you thing they were teaching her at the uni for at least 3 years??)))

  10. Ok. You are right. May be she just think russian accent sounds more sexy. I don't know...
